Hello world!

Right. This started when I wanted to have a nice selection of landscapes to have in rotation as wallpapers -  preferably a new one every day. Getting 365 of them that look amazing proved harder then I thought. I had to go through about 30,000 images until I was happy.

Now, I was not searching only for beautiful photos, I wanted the ones that would work great as wallpapers. That meant they should not be too busy, too bright, or too distracting. And they had to be spectacular landscapes. Also, they should not be overly processed - i think most photographers should not be allowed in the vicinity of image processing software. More often than not, they ruin beautiful photos by going overboard. Yeah, you can completely change the mood of the photo if you want, I have no problem with that, but it should still look Iike a photo, not like a cheap illustration. For what I do like, National Geographic photos are a good example.

On the other hand, I myself am going to do a lot of processing to the images I selected. I am not a photographer, but I am a pretty accomplished professional artist, so I think I am going to do them justice. Mostly, I am going to do general adjustments to bring them all in line with one another, and to fit my taste for something that’s going to dominate my screen. This means nice contrast, slightly underexposed (as I want them a little subdued), and no high-key images. Emphasized colors yes, but still within what’s plausible. I’ll describe whatever attrocity I’ve done to each photo. In case you don’t like it, but like the photo, I’ll also include the link to the original.

So, to summarize - a new landscape wallpaper every day. For one year. 3072x1920 pixels, 16:10 aspect ratio, edited to my taste. Starts tomorrow, with the New Year. Enjoy.
